Mambo Merimbula Classic 2005

Mambo 2005 gave us some of the best waveriding conditions seen at this event for a loooong time, much to the delight of the NSWWA sailors who made their way down there for it. King Rohan took out the coveted King Mambo title, with a host of our guys performing some great wavesailing moves, interspersed with some hard partying (and pulling) maneuvers.

Standouts included Adrian Levy and Jon Redmond, who, in addition to sailing all day, took partying to new levels on the Thursday night - an act of self sacrifice, designed to eliminate dangerman Scott McKercher from the line up on Friday (that was to prove the best days sailing of the comp). The evil plan worked... but only to a point. Scott was indeed so hungover he only managed an hour or two on the water on Friday, however he wasn't the World Champ last year for nothing, managing to put together enough stylish airs and waverides to grab the top wave sailing spot. Jon was rewarded for his efforts with kudos and huge stature amongst the local media types, who were keen to get up close to him and hear how he could have taken young McKercher down, but took pity on him at the last moment. Respect, Jon.
