GROMS GO GREECE
After avoiding getting a real job and windsurfing all over Western Australia during the summer, things have changed and another season has started in Greece. Apparently I did pretty well here last year, because the boss let me bring out even more Aussie windsurfers!
My friends Luke Johnson and Ben Fawkes who are now instructors on the beach, and they are having a great time getting to know the club and the guests. Ben and Luke have been best friends of mine since we were little, and are probably better windsurfers (don’t let them know I said that).
The club Peligoni is located on an island called Zakynthos off the west coast of Greece. We are employed as windsurfing and sailing instructors, and are having a great time. The wind is great over here, and our freestyle is getting a lot better even though freestyle stinks. We miss the waves, but the great wind around the club and being able to go to spots like Vasiliki make it not so bad. We went to Vasiliki a few days ago with a group of windsurf instructors and we were sailing with some of Europe’s best freestyle sailors. The entire summer is proving to be a great opportunity to improve our sailing, and it’s even easier because we are in such a great spot surrounded by so many great sailors. We’ll be here teaching and sailing until the end of September, and then plan on going back to WA for some more waves. We may not have been around for a while but are definitely planning on coming back to one of the good old comps soon.
