RECENT NEWS

If anyone is looking for a reasonably priced sailing machine - a reliable Toyota Hilux set up for windsurfing is after a loving home; get in contact with us at nswwavesailing@gmail.com and we'll pass your details on.

Here's a look at the GPS speedsailing series. The 2007 Celebration of Windsurfing is planning on having a speed gun set up for the punters this year, so you too can be like Chris Lockwood - fastest sailor in the world with GPS timing on production gear, 2006. We are not certain he was on a wave board though...

It is with sadness we bring the news that one of our own, Brad Andersen, passed away in Sydney this morning 30.4.07. Brad was still giving his sailing everything he had with no fear and could be seen on occasion launching into forward loops in knee deep water at Kurnell! Our deepest sympathies go out to his family.

The Carbon Art NZ nationals were held at Taranaki over the Easter weekend in some nice conditions; check out the report and pics.

Expat Aussie, Jill Cooper, competed in the Carbon Art Wave Sailing Nationals at Taranaki over Easter and won the Womens title. Not a bad effort for a 43 yr old mum! Check out this interview with her

Overall rankings for the 06/07 season are finally up! While we at NSWWA would never admit to making any errors, EVER, if you feel there is a discrepancy with your placing you have 2 options...

Option 1: submit a carefully worded, polite email to nswwavesailing@gmail.com; free of expletives, threats and general unpleasantness. This may result in a review (It could also be ignored in the hope you go away).

Option 2: sail better next year.

The Tabou Classic pulled out some wind at the last minute for competition to be called on. Dan Berry won the Open Pros, with Adrian Levy coming a respectable 4th after returning from (self-inflicted celebratory) injury. Steve Worley took 1st in the Social Mens division and Dave Stafford made it to the water in time to get 2nd in the Grand Masters! (The late start was to his benefit I suspect...)

"WindSurfnSnow Teams' Challenge" pics are now up!

Check out the great footage of the PWA Cabo Verde event, with some huge airs in the perfect conditions (Adrian - something to aim for!).

The Windsurf n' Snow Team Challenge at Gerroa saw some initial fun and games in pleasant conditions before a thunderstorm scattered competitors back to the house for an early tea break (except Dave Stafford, who determinedly stood in the carpark "waiting for it to clear"). Everyone enjoyed a great seafood extravaganza and Mike Preswick enjoyed winning both a Neil Pryde kit-bag and the Carbon Art wave board! Congratulations Mike (you cheesy git).

Thanks to everyone involved for a great year, especially the committee and our outgoing President Dan Berry for all their hardwork over the past 12 months. It's been a successful season with some great conditions and we'll be aiming for more of the same and then some, starting again in August. The Tabou Classic and Aus Nationals are next to look forward to in late March.

DirtyDog event report is now up.

More pics added of the Dirty Dog action.

More PICS added into the gallery.
You can also check out loads more from these guys.

Mystery swell comes through! Radical Wave report now up! And results too.

The Celebration of Windsurfing Day had a great turnout and some exciting racing and freestyle action, with NSWWA sailors leading the slalom fleets in some of the races (being able to gybe helps...) as well as cleaning up in the freestyle comp. Pics here, including Jason Juretic and Dean Hendrie charging in the slalom on their wave gear.

Results for the Mambo are now up. Congrats to those NSWWA sailors who stormed up the rankings - an excellent showing in all divisions!

Check out the Carbon Art Mega Wave Classic report for the updates on this past weekend, with loads of competitors, some good conditions and a whole lot of fun. Pics are now up also. And results too (finally!).

Early January sees the Geraldton Windsurfing Festival take off at the local mecca of Coronation Beach. A $50 entry gets you loads of goodies and the general vibe is going to be that of a 'Mambo in the west'. Sounds like it should be great, and that time of year sees stacks of wind with solid swell.

The NSWWA November 2006 newsletter is GO!

Irish correspondent Tim Wyers has a mate who is putting together a windsurfing guide to the world which needs contributions about spots on the east coast of OZ. If you're keen to talk/write up your local spot then email: udo@stoked.publications.com

The Sailworks Extreme Smack Classic report is up, setting competition alight in the 2006/07 series. Pics are now up as well!

Postcard from Europe - Tim Wyers tests out life in a van, with a 6-pack of beer and some windsurfing equipment.

Days of Our Lives drama was rife at the Dirty Dog Extravaganza! Lack of wind led to a storyline right out of Bold and the Beautiful as this report outlines...

The NSWWA August 2006 newsletter is instore now. Actually, you can just download it. Click the link. Back there.

Baby Update! Dean and Leanne Hendrie are the proud parents of a new addition to the NSWWA: their son Isaac James Hendrie was born on 19.6.06 at 12:50 am, weighing in at 8lb 10oz (about 3.7 kg in the old parlance I think). Mum and baby are doing well. Congratulations to the new parents, and we hope to see the whole family at Birubi.

One of the most popular coaching clinics of last season was about the forward loop. There wasn't much wind then, so here's another version to chew on for those of you getting set to throw yourself over the handlebars next time we're out there!

Here are a few pics of the (rusty) winter sailing at Windang - looks like there could be another southerly this weekend, so it could all be on again. Thanks to Rob Graham for the pics.

The 2006-07 season calendar is now up, with details on format and payment options along with wisdom from the old man of the sea, el presidente Berry.

For those of you heading to Maui this winter, here are tips from some of the pros on riding Jaws, and what you might expect.
Results for the 2005/06 season have now been posted and are accompanied by a wise and wholesome review from our benevolent leader Dan 'comedy is my middle name' Berry. Check out where you finished up.

The Tabou report is now ready for perusal, and we are expecting pics of the huge wave action in the next few days.

Here is the latest (well, I just heard about it...)
weather & wave-mapping info from WetSand. And if you check this out, it looks like the Gold Coast is up for a wee bit o' surf this weekend... just in time for the Tabou comp!

Pics of the nationals party are now up.

Due to a severe lack of wind the NSWWA Team Event became a surfing comp. Having heard Wazza talking up the 3/4 mast waves that they always get at Gerroa, the Sydney boys showed up with their shortboards only to find 1-2 foot dribble. Wazza then drafted in some never-seen-before local surf gurus onto the Southern NSW team for their run to a contentious victory...

The Australian National Wavesailing Titles were held at Gerroa, NSW over the last week. Congratulations to Matt Holder from WA who took out the top Opens gong, followed by our own George Westra in 2nd and Dean Hendrie in 3rd. NSW had a good showing overall, check out all the results here and the report here!

Wanda turned it on, Sunday 12th Feb with many Sydney sailors enjoying the classic conditions. Check these pics out, courtesy of Mind Factory.

Alright! Thanks to Tom 'the Hoff' Hofmann for these great shots of the Windang action.

Some great waves and a new sheriff made the Dirty Dog Eyewear Classic a whole lot of fun at Windang over 4-5 Feb. Pics of the Disco are up too.
